Technology Zombies

I have chosen to write my Argumentative Paper on how technology has handicapped society. In this day in age the world revolves around technology. If we were to take five teenagers back in time before electricity was invented, I do not believe they would be able to survive,

I believe society relies too much on technology in everyday life. I am also extremely guilty of this. I remember a time when land lines and payphones were my only source to contact people. Now, I am lost without my cellphone.

I remember a time where I had pen-pals. Now, if I wanted to write someone I would just send them an email.

In a way I miss the simplicity of not having technology. I remember when playing outside or building a fort was the highlight of my day. Now days, if you tell a child to play outside, they look at you like your stupid.

Most kids are glued to the Television, gaming system, computer or phone. Many parents use technology as a babysitter. I have been guilty myself of putting my two year old in front of cartoons while I cleaned or studied.

I believe technology has made society lazy. We rely too much on it, and there might be a day when we will no longer have it. The question is, would we be able to survive. I know the younger generation would suffer the most.

  1. I so agree with you on this topic. I am 38 years old and I too remember the times of land line phones and pay phones and passing notes in class, not text messages. My childhood was spent playing baseball at the park with my friends from sun up to sun down. Kids now a days if you ask them to play outside they just sit in a chair and wonder what they are supposed to do. They have lost all imagination! If a tower went down for a week, I wonder what all the kids would do without cell phones, LOL.

  3. I personally do not own a cellphone. In fact, I debate getting one. Sometimes I see the convenience but mostly I see someone always cutting into my time when I should be busy doing something besides talking on a phone. The snow storm a few years ago made people realize how much we are dependent on technology, but we should be ready to go back to the '80's or even further if needed. I think technology has made us a lazy society, and we need to get up and do something.

  4. I agree with you. I can remember when I used to play outside until it started to get dark. My friends and I used to ride our bikes everywhere and walk around the neighborhood blocks just for fun. I think that parents do rely to much on technology to watch their child for them. I do think that television, gaming, and all other technology should be monitored to a child. They should be out side playing Red Rover Red Rover or doing something productive instead of being stuck inside.

  5. I also believe that technology has put a huge damper on society. I always have to have my cell phone with me. I tend to get frantic when I cannot find my phone. This shows how much people depend on cell phone these days. If something were to happen to the electricity, to where it didn't exist anymore, so many people would not be able to survive. Everyone has gotten used to technology for everyday uses.

  6. Karen, society does rely on technology too much these days. I still remember when I was little, I didn't own a cell phone. Today the kids seems like they can't live without them. When I was growing up you couldn't just goggle or bing anything that you had a question about. I feel like with all of the new technology our kids are getting cheated out of learning a lot of things. Instead of reading and actually learning new things kids today would rather find the answers straight from the internet and this is so sad.

  7. Technology has definitely taken over our society. I would be okay without technology if nobody else had access to it. The way things are now I have to use electronic devices to keep up at work as well as in school. I miss the way things used to be.

  8. Technology really have taken over on the younger people. I do not believe that they can make it in the world without all the technologies that are out today. They need to be able to make it throughout life without having to deal with some kind of internet or something to survive.

  9. I agree with you that technology has taken over. My 5 year old has his own iPad but he has learned so much by having it. He loves to play outside as well. All I did as a child was play outside, sun up to sun down. I hope my child continues to enjoy doing both.

  10. I'm glad Amber mentioned how much her son has learned from technology because think of all of the things that we can do now because of technology! In a recent article, someone tried to compare the technology of the iPhone to the Apollo 11 (the one that landed on the moon), and they're so far apart that they're not even comparable! Instead, this article compared it to the IBM released in 1981, which had 8 times more memory than the spaceship! Not to mention all of the advances in the medical field due to technology.

  11. I think technology is good but it has made us lazy. My lights went out yesterday morning and i thought my kids were going to have heart attacks. I told them the light was just fine outside lol. Any way I have a child that goes to school in Cross County and they are considered a technology school. Every child 5th grade and above gets a laptop to keep through the year. I have noticed he is way more tech savy then my other kids and can type type way faster too. This I believe will give him an advantage in the future as most jobs now require some type of computer skills.
